About the class: Fermentation is one of the oldest forms of food processing, and once upon a time, fermentation was a necessary skill in order to preserve food and get sufficient calories and nutrition when food sources were scarce. However, with the advent of fridges, high-speed transportation, and the loss of traditional practices in the kitchen, fermented foods not only became less popular but to some, completely unknown and mysterious. But luckily for us and future generations, the art of fermentation has begun a resurgence and such foods are becoming popular and widely available once again.
If you’ve been paying attention at all to the latest in the nutrition world, you will likely have heard of kombucha, kefir, fermented vegetables and more. Perhaps these sounded strange and foreign to you, but have become a part of your diet. Or perhaps you’ve heard of them but haven’t yet taken the leap and given them a try. In our modern society, as a whole we have moved away from these foods and let’s face it…we’re not getting any healthier as a species, and our kids are sicker than ever. History has demonstrated that those who enjoy the most thriving and vibrant of health understand that these are exactly the foods that we must include in our daily diets.
To me, the most sustainable way to health is to be armed with the knowledge and wisdom of how to do it yourself. This is how we pass knowledge down through the generations and keep our children and grandchildren healthy. What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?
We are located near the corner of Heritage Drive and Elbow Drive, SW. Lots of public transportation options, and a free parking lot if you’re driving.
What can I bring into the event?
Bring a notepad if desired, your lovely energy, and your questions! Please do not bring your (young) children with you as space is very limited.
