Golden Milk with Medicinal Mushrooms Reishi & Scarlet Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) Pt 2

Golden Milk with Medicinal Mushrooms Reishi & Scarlet Cordyceps (Cordyceps militaris) Pt 1

May 21st, 2019

This is a two parter today, sometimes we get interrupted when the phone rings or a customer comes in! Today I’m discussing one of my favourite drink mixes- TurmaMilk by North American Herb and Spice. It’s super delicious, don’t let the fact that it’s turmeric scare you off!

Heres my personal recipe (the basic one is on the back of the bag):

  • 400ml milk or non-dairy milk (I prefer coconut or cashew)
  • 1 tsp TurmaMilk mix
  • 1-2 tsp coconut oil or grass-fed ghee
  • 2 tsp Yacon Syrup or raw honey
  • pinch of sea salt

My preferred superfood add-ins:

  • 1/2 tsp Vital Essence Reishi Extract (wildcrafted)
  • 1/2 tsp Vital Essence Scarlet Cordyceps Extract (wildcrafted)
  • 1 scoop New Earth Organics Collagen Peptides
  • 1 tsp New Earth Organics Astragalus extract (during fall and winter seasons)

Hibiscus Tea Benefits and How to Make a Nourishing Infusion

In this video I explain how to steep herbal tea for maximum goodness and I cover a few of hibiscus’ many benefits for the liver and heart. Spring is liver season, summer is heart season- and this herb bridges the two seasons beautifully. Using it as a base for smoothies does not increase calories or sugar.

Nut Mylk Recipe with Medicinal Mushrooms

April 30th, 2019

Heres my recipe for homemade nut mylk utilizing whatever nuts or seeds you have on hand, elevated with nutritive Jujube dates and medicinal mushrooms!

  • 1 cups nuts/seeds (soaked overnight)
  • 3-4 cups water depending on how creamy you want it
  • 2-3 New Earth Organics Jujube dates
  • Pinch of New Earth Organics Crystal Sea Salt
  • 2-3 tsp New Earth Organics medicinal mushroom powders
  • Pinch of cinnamon, cardamom and/or vanilla extract (about 1/4tsp)- optional

Strain the soaked nuts/seeds and give them a rinse. Add pitted dates and one cup hot water to blender, blend until dates start to break down. Add soaked nuts/seeds and 2-3 cups cold water. Blend on high for a couple minutes. Taste, and add sea salt and mushroom powders. Blend until mostly emulsified. Taste again and adjust seasonings as desired. Strain using cheesecloth or nut mylk bag. Although more expensive to make than store bought, your body (and taste buds) will thank you!

Tasty Tuesdays Episode #5:

Cooking with Medicinal Mushrooms

Tuesday April 10th, 2019

In this video I talk about how to incorporate medicinal mushrooms into your dinners (or savoury meals). The two mushrooms I mention are Poria and Lions Mane, because they have the most neutral flavour. For those who don’t eat grains, these mushrooms would go great in things like cauliflower “mashed potatoes” or any kind of sauce! Cooking does not negatively impact the nutrition or medicine of the mushrooms.

Chia Pudding with Green Tea Pollen and Sea Buckthorn (Part One)

Chia Pudding with Green Tea Pollen and Sea Buckthorn (Part Two)

Tuesday April 3rd, 2019

One of my favourite breakfasts is chia seed pudding. Chia is naturally high in fibre, and with the healthy fats from coconut milk- this pudding will keep you full for hours, while providing you with amazing plant-based nutrition. I also love that it’s versatile- you can have it hot or cold, with fruit or with nuts and seeds. For dessert I like to warm it up and mix raw cacao powder into it.

Tasty Tuesdays Episode #3:

Sour Oats: Lacto-Fermented Oatmeal

Tuesday March 19th, 2019

Ferment your oats before you eat them! The recipe uses rolled oats but I MUCH PREFER steel cut oats, the texture is amazing.

Some of you may be wondering if cooking the oats destroys the fermentation benefits, and rest assured it does not! Yes, the bacteria will die off. But you’re still consuming the gut-friendly acids (aka post-biotics) that were produced by the probiotics.

Heres an article that covers the recipe for sour oats and suggested add-ins: http://phickle.com/soak-those-oats-fermented-oatmeal-is-better-than-your-oatmeal/
